Flirting And Playful Social Contact
Boosting Confidence While Fostering Goodwill
Playfully showing interest in someone (flirting) can serve various purposes. While it may not directly relate to addiction treatment, it relates to practicing empathy and compassion in interacting with people. I enjoy showing that I understand and enjoy others regardless of their background or beliefs. I have a very inclusive nature.
Flirting is communication. For example, someone is looking at the crackers at a grocery store, so I say, āThese look good. Have you ever tried them?ā Itās so effortless to try this to boost self-esteem and confidence. If you get positive feedback, the cracker-shopping person may engage in playful interactions if they feel more attractive and self-assured.
If you get negative feedback or silence, donāt ask them to see the cucumbers with you. The key to pleasant chit-chat is active listening, genuine interest, and respecting the views and preferences of others.
Being cordial while shopping or washing clothes at the laundromat is just friendly banter and a means to establish connections and rapport with people. It doesnāt hurt to be pleasant, fun, and light-hearted. Laughter and enjoyment can reduce stress and promote a positive mood. My friend told me not to stare at their knickers while they wash.
Engaging respectfully and consensually is essential, ensuring all parties are comfortable with the interaction. So, one must practice. Casual social contact can sometimes lead to deeper connections and romantic relationships. Itās often an initial step in getting to know someone.
