About Me — Bhavadharini Balaji

--

Life is a constant adventure, with twists and turns that we can never quite predict. But it’s these unexpected moments that make life worth living.

My own journey has taken me through rough seas and calm waters, but through it all, I’ve learned to navigate the waves with grace and resilience. Let me take you along for the ride, as I share my story of growth, discovery, and self-discovery.

Who am I?

✍🏽I am Bhavadharini, I am a freelance scientific and medical writer. I help medical communication agencies, health media websites, research institutions, and pharma companies draft evidence-based scientific and medical writing for their audience. I am passionate about diabetes and I can talk to you hours about gestational diabetes, because that’s what I PhD’d in..

But here’s little bit more about me:

🎆 I was born in India, lived in many countries including the UAE, Qatar and now in Canada ❄️

🤷🏼‍♀️ I am a short person… just made it to 5 ft and then for some reason stopped there. I blame it on genetics.

🥑 I am a vegetarian.. not vegan.. vegetarian…

☕️I have my coffee white with two sugars. I love Canada’s Tim Hortons double double.. 😊 but sometimes you can’t say no to Tim’s French vanilla!

⏭During the pandemic, I started a YouTube channel where I talk about Canadian Immigration, for those who were looking to make the move to Canada. I don’t do it anymore, but the channel is still there.. with over 30k subscribers.

👩🏽‍💻I didn’t know anything about consulting, until I transitioned into my first industry role. That I quit a while ago to become a freelancer full time.

👩🏽‍🎓Before that I did a PhD and 2 postdoc fellowships. Published 30 scientific papers (still publish!). All of them in diabetes. More specifically, gestational diabetes.

🎹I play the harmonium.. its an Indian musical instrument… you may wanna google it..

🎗 Summer 2022 I had a tryst with… well, a benign tumor. There I said it! I have never said it out loud..!! So, it was benign and I underwent a parotidectomy surgery. I had it identified very early, so it didn’t cause much damage. I hope. One can only hope.

🤹🏽‍♀️ I am a mother of 9-year-old (9 and ¼ he says. He likes to be specific!). He is member of school’s chess club, plays soccer, and loves art !

🎥I love Indian movies (recent favourites include RRR, Kantara, PS1, Rocketry).

📘The only time I pre ordered a book was during summer 2007 — Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows. That I finished in one night. Okay, maybe 2.

🎞 If watching Netflix was a job, I could have a great pay out and never work another day. But its not, and so I work. So, I can subscribe to Netflix.

🏠I discovered Full House (and Fuller House) during the pandemic and its my go-to series when I am down and depressed.

🙌🏽Hi-Five if you stayed to read till the end…! So….did you find anything in common? Let me know in the comments and share your story with the rest of us..
