How I wrote 15 books in 15 years.

Hi friends,

As some of you who have been following me may know before I started blogging on medium most of my writing took place on my notepad and then was transferred into various files and eventually published.

The writing journey began way before just 15 years ago. When I was a kid in Ukraine I used to write down small stories on paper and run around acting them out.

When I moved to the US it took time to learn English, but once I did, I began writing my first novel. It was an epic medieval fantasy. Remember this part, for we will come back to this later. So, as I was saying, I was writing this piece as a senior in high school and then my computer crashed. It was done, wouldn’t turn on. The novel was gone with it. I had a lot of sadness engulf me at the time.

Shortly after that, I went to university. During my time there I wrote a few unpublished stories and a few poems that were indeed published. My first official published work was a poem called “Ice.” It was about the coldness of society’s hearts.

It was around 2008 that I finally began writing another novel. It was named “Love in Ashes.” It took me two years to write it, then It was accepted by a publishing house and officially out in 2011. It was my first novel. I had great expectations for it in my head. I think I watched too many movies, haha.

Needless to say, the first book did okay, but as I did not reach the right level of maturity at the time, I was very disappointed.

However, a year later I was back at it and in 2013 my second novel, “The Hourglass and The Tunnel” came out. It was a metaphor for ugliness in society. A future where people are separated by how they look.

This book did not become a hit either, but guess what…Once again, I was back to it and in 2016 a book that got mentioned by some people during covid times was released. “Sunflower fields” was a book about a dystopian future where big companies and governments released a disease upon people, the only cure being an injection that affected certain human functions.

It’s funny looking back at this book now, the writing isn’t that great. Hence why I ended up writing another book similar to it eventually, but we’ll get to that.

The next book that I wrote was my longest, and for me, it was a very important one. Remember that medieval fantasy that was lost? Well, this was it, an epic medieval fantasy called “The last wolf of Iralith.” Think of Berserk meets Lord of the Rings sort of vibe. It’s been my least favorite book among my readers, however, for me, it was huge. The year was 2020. A gap of 4 years between book releases. However, 2020 ended up being a big year for me in writing terms.

I wrote a collection of short horror stories that year as well, publishing them in the book titled “Tides of Horror”, and then that October I wrote the book which ended up being my most successful work, “Paradise Harbour.” It was a piece of pure inspiration, I wrote the whole thing in 3 weeks.

Early the next year it was accepted by a good publishing house and I was given a contract for a whole trilogy.

While waiting for it to be released, I wrote a Christian book titled “Whispers of God.” I was so very happy with this book and still am. I posted the whole thing here on Medium, you are welcome to read it.

“Paradise Harbour” officially came out in Nov 2021. The following December I wrote the 5 books of the “City of the Spider” series. It came out in the early parts of 2022. Remember I said we’d come back to “Sunflower fields”? This new series was supposed to be a remake of that book but ended up being a thing of its flavor. It’s a series that I now put into one book and it is about a dystopian future where freedom is illegal and A.I. controls everything.

Following this, I published a short horror book which funny enough became my most-read work, called “The Breath.”

This summer of 2022, “Paradise Shores”, a sequel to “Paradise Harbour” came out.

The final part of the trilogy is coming out December 5th, 2022, it’s called “Paradise Symphony” and it’ll complete the journey with detective Luc Nistage.

Currently, I’m writing a horror book which I think will be the final book, at least for a while.

What kept me going all these years?

Love of creating. Determination. Faith. Thinking about how amazing it’ll be for my son to grow up and read my books.

Well anyway, thank you for reading about my books and the timeline in which I wrote them.

Blessings.

P.S., yes that’s me in a photo with a real butterfly that landed on my hand and flew away shortly after the photo was taken.
