How Simple Things Can Trigger Beautiful Memories
When you least expect it
By Barbara Martin
Have you ever started your day assuming it would be rather boring, only to have something amazing happen?
This morning I left my cabin to do some pretty boring stuff. Water at the spring, grocery shopping, gas in the truck and a quick stop at the dollar store to stock up on more candles.
And it was there in the dollar store when my boring day turned into not so boring.
I’d been carrying one of those small plastic shopping baskets looking for the candles, when something made me stop and stare. It wasn’t a person, or even anything special, yet special in its own way to me.
A black and white man’s plaid shirt hung on the rack, the only one of its kind. And I was instantly transported back to a long ago time when the love of my life had worn an almost identical shirt.
I must have looked like an idiot standing there in the ailse as a memory rushed into my heart. But I couldn’t take my eyes off that shirt as I relived it all over again.
I could almost hear his deep laugh as we ate dinner together, his warm brown eyes gazing into mine.
I could almost reach out and touch his strong arms, and his wild curly black hair. I even remember the meal we ate…
