How to Know Your Audience
Take the Advice Literally
Know your audience.
We get it. We've heard the advice before. I got the "I Survived" T-shirt.
But what if we really knew our audience?
What if we took the advice literally?
Writers have an opportunity to interact directly with their audience on social media. We can pay attention to the people who pay attention to us.
We can get to know our readers. We can learn their children's names and follow their Goodreads to see what books their reading. Do they read books similar to ours?
You may not want to get that involved. I don't blame you.
But consider it.
How would you benefit from interacting with your readers?
How would you write differently?
Step 1: Be Clear About Who You Are
People have to read your writing for you to have an audience, and readers want to know who they’re reading.
A podcasting expert once described podcasting to me as "searchable media." In the digital age, your readers will likely find you through an internet search.
