Krishna. The very name fills me with joy, hope, and love. He is not just a deity I believe in. He is not just the Parambrahma I go to with my troubles. He is not just my saviour in times of need. He is not just a God I pray to because of my religion.

To me, the truth is, he is the ultimate liberation.

I believe I am an old soul. Sure, I can get pretty materialistic at times, and I even had a brief period during school when I leaned towards atheism. But all of that flew out the window once I began learning about him.

Being raised in a Hindu family, Krishna has always been part of my life. I grew up praying to him, listening to stories of his leelas, and visiting temples. But he never truly became a part of me until… he decided.

Let me explain. I’m still at the base of a vast mountain of knowledge — barely beginning the climb. But from what I’ve heard, even becoming his believer only happens when he chooses you. I can’t point to a specific moment he entered my life, but perhaps it was during one of my lowest phases. All I know is, he is where I go for comfort, and that’s how my journey toward him began.

I’ll admit — the more I learnt about him at first, the more I feared him. And why wouldn’t I? It’s a well-known truth among his bhakts that Krishna picks us up, only to put us into another pickle. He tests us. Pushes us. Breaks us down. But I’m forever grateful that my path didn’t stop at fear — it led me to love.

For me, it was about understanding. I’ve never been someone who gives up on a book just because I don’t understand a part of it. I can’t let go until I make sense of it. So I wondered: why would our God trouble us? Surely, he wants us to live better, not suffer. After all, he is benevolent.

And yes, he is — but he is also the Supreme Being. Wiser than all. Knower of everything. He loves us, and because he loves us, he wants us to be free. Most of us only turn to God when we feel lost — when life becomes unbearable and we have nowhere else to go. That’s when Krishna says: surrender to me. Once we realize that nothing is truly in our control, and the ego is just a fragile illusion we’ve been clinging to, everything begins to fall apart — so we can finally see the truth.

He puts us into situations where we’re forced to remember him. And as long as we trust him, he always shows us the way.

We have the right to perform our duty, but not to its result.

We obsess over the future — the life we want but don’t have, the unfairness, the inequality, the pain of it all. And what do we gain from that? Nothing. He has already told us the truth of life, the universe, and ourselves. It is up to us to finally listen.

Why do I love my Krishna? Because he is love itself. He guides us when we’re lost, helps us when we need him, forgives us at our worst, and never lets go of our hand. He is not just my God. He is the brother who protects me. The teacher who enlightens me. The friend I tell all my secrets to. He’s the mischievous maakhan-chor who might tease and test us a little — but here’s a trick we all know: call out to Radha Rani with true love and devotion, and he will come running.

He is in my heart. In my soul. And I am on my way to my home , my Krishna.
