Have you ever found yourself binge-watching your favourite Netflix show until 3 AM? Yeah… I know, we’ve all been there.

While your tired eyes beg you to let them rest, you’re too busy tapping the “next episode” option. And your excuses? Fully dramatic!

“This will be the last episode.” And guess what? You’re totally trapped in the plot. I’ve also been in that loop.

As a full-time high school teacher by day and content writer by night, burning the midnight oil wasn’t a new thing for me.

Conducting 5–6 back-to-back classes, grading assessment papers, and crafting articles as soon as I reached home—I didn’t realize how madly my body needed rest—until it started showing signs.

So, I decided to take on a challenge: sleeping at 10 PM for 30 days straight. It wasn’t only about sleeping earlier, but about giving my body intentional rest.

The best part? I’ve documented the results. Excited? You must be—because this one’s for my beloved Medium readers.

Week 1: The Road to Detox

Nothing is easy. Breaking up with my midnight scrolling was a tough decision. Although my body had the urge to instantly grab the phone and start scrolling, I had to tame myself. And gladly, I did.

Sounds good? Not really.

As I lay down, I was trapped in a cage of thoughts—lesson planners and project deadlines given by clients.

But the good news? Fatigue kicked in by the third night. It meant my body had started to sync. It was getting used to the sleeping pattern I had been struggling with.

According to the American Psychological Association, following a consistent sleeping routine not only brings mental clarity but also improves memory.

Week 2: The Energy Shift to Early Mornings

By week 2, I realized I had begun waking up before the alarm went off. I actually had more time to take a morning shower and enjoy my tea without rushing things.

As a writer, I could see visible changes in my ideas. They felt clearer, sharper, and pretty sensible to be penned down.

Wait, how could I forget that scrumptious cheese omelet? It tasted better this time. Maybe because I never had the time to enjoy it this much?

Some studies have found that sleep before midnight is the best way to enhance problem-solving and boost creativity. And honestly, it was absolutely true in my case.

My ideas were better. My words would flow smoothly. And the edits? They took less time than you could even imagine.

Week 3: When Stress Took a Backseat—Finally

By day 15, I could see visible results. This week was truly a turning point. I was more focused, less reactive. My day-to-day tasks no longer felt like mountains to climb.

I managed to prepare lesson planners and draft my content faster than ever. I even enjoyed delivering lectures to my students. Trust me—it all felt amazing.

And you know what made it even crazier? Everybody could see it. Perhaps my face glow was impossible to ignore. Just kidding, hahaha! Well… not completely.

One day, while I was taking a class, one of the students said, “You seem happier, teacher.” She wasn’t wrong. I was genuinely happy—inside and out.

Quality sleep regulates the stress hormone cortisol. It makes you feel emotionally lighter and reduces stress.

Week 4: When Peace Became a Permanent Possession

Undoubtedly, week 4 was when the real magic happened. Everything felt so smooth. My teaching career became dynamic and less chaotic. Writing tasks? I’d finish my drafts more quickly—without running out of content ideas.

I even started attracting more connections on LinkedIn. The reason? My posts were likely more thoughtful than ever.

I still regret why I didn’t realize the power of good sleep earlier. How effectively early sleep improved my tone, perspective, and resilience was truly astonishing.

After all, I wasn’t chasing harmony and peace anymore. I was developing it—day by day, night by night.

Final Thoughts

In recent times, when we’ve started prioritizing our professional lives, wouldn’t you agree that we’re somehow compromising our health?

From hustlers to screen addicts—sleep feels optional. But it isn’t. It should never be. Sleeping at 10 PM didn’t just help me schedule my tasks—it recalibrated my mind, body, and thoughts.

I was transformed into a better teacher, a more skilled writer. And frankly? A more disciplined and calmer human being.

So, to all my Medium hustlers, night owls, and silent scrollers—would you dare to sleep at 10 PM tonight to see how it goes for you?
