It’s okay to slow down, Buddy
Your journey is as unique as you are
When was the last time you slowed down — really slowed down?
In this fast paced life of the 21st century, you see everyone, including yourself running. Not even jogging, literally running. Why? To be better at what you do. To live up to your own expectations. To meet deadlines. To work harder towards your dreams. All said and done, it is true. Maybe fair too. But at what cost?
Let me take you back to my life, back in 2024. It was
Slow, but not stagnant. Moving, but not fast.
Cause it was my pace. Needless to say, I did require time to understand what it truly meant to “Work at your own pace.” Being honest, the journey to achieve any goal, any ambition is difficult. It is meant to be. And that comes with a host of things, impacting our mental space directly or indirectly.
- Constant comparison with peers
- Feeling “stuck” at some point
- Feeling overwhelmed with things around
- Shouldering of responsibilities
- Trying to prove that “you are good enough”
Over the entire last year, I’ve come to realise that,
What truly matters is how you believe in yourself.
Your self esteem. Understanding your pace of doing things.
That pace includes slowing down to acknowledge yourself, how far you’ve come. Sometimes even simple things like
- Hot shower
- A cup of tea at the balcony (My go-to)
- Listening to classical music
- Watching your favourite stand-up comedy show or
- Cooking your comfort meal
could be that breathing space for your mind and body.
You are unique, buddy. So is your journey.
If you keep comparing, your Day 1 with someone’s Day 100, you may let yourself down.
You don’t deserve that at all. Instead, watch yourself grow. Becoming better everyday. Only you know, what your journey means to you. How it has helped in transforming the way you are, your lifestyle, your choices, everything. Just keep respecting that and trust me, you will shine brighter. Always.
So, with this year ending in barely 4 months (Yeah, Hello reality check!) and with the New Year resolutions of 2025 long lost ( Hehe! Caught you, didn’t I?) start being kinder to yourself and your journey (This time is the right time, buddy). Witness your growth, pat on your back and keep moving forward. You are doing great, trust me.
If this truly helped you in any way, I’m wearing a smile on my face as you are right now!
Thanks for reading!
What’s one ritual that helps you pause and breathe? I’d love to hear it in the comments!
