Marriage: The Single Biggest Decision in Life
5-Key Decisions that inevitably decide the course of our lives
Charlie Munger once famously said that-
Marriage is one of the most important decision a person makes in their life.
Warren Buffett said something similar in a not-so-polite way:
If your marriage is built around a paper with detailed terms and conditions (pre-nuptial agreement) then you might as well not do it.
I couldn’t agree more with the legends. It’s like the simple thing these days where being with someone who you connect with — mentally, emotionally and spiritually or value-system-wise is a rarity so to speak.
The person who you share your life and build your family with matters so much in the long run about one’s life trajectory, experiences, path and achievements.
Life Lesson: It’s the big decisions that matter in the long run, marriage being one of them.
- What school we go to study
- What career path we follow
- Our family [what familial setup we are born into]
Besides marriage, the above are probably some of the most important decisions which impact the trajectory of our lives.
The rest, to my mind, is decided basis what we do each day and or how we take control of our life but a major portion of our life is directionally controlled basis a few key decisions that we end up making.
I am no expert albeit you can ask any sane person how their partner has been there for them. Their support system as someone who brings peace, and tranquillity and serves as their backbone.
It’s with this peace of mind at home that we can go out and fight the battles in the world.
I am NOT going to sugarcoat- Life is hard! and unfair too! But it becomes relatively easier and comfortable when we have a sounding board at home.
Someone whom we can trust like the back of our hand. Someone who is our support system. Someone with whom our inner child can live. Yes, don’t lie to yourself being all grown up and responsible. We all are and have that child-like innocence inside us. Some of us keep that alive, some others have buried it somewhere in our hearts in the name of responsibilities in life.
Just like the Pareto principle wherein 80% of our results and outcomes are driven by only 20% of our decisions and actions, deeds. The same is applicable to the course of our lives. The key decisions charting the course of our lives!
