My Passion For Applied Game Theory
It makes my life sooooo easy
I have a passion for game theory. I have adjusted my mental process to view almost every interaction with the world as a type of game (excluding love, art, and things of a more spiritual and intuitive nature).
Game theory is an approach to decision where we are presented with limited, and constrained conditions of scarce resources, scarce information, as well as competition from other players.
This doesn’t need to be complex, though researchers in game theory have been awarded numerous Nobel Prizes. Games can be played against ourselves (the card game Solitaire) in single person games or against other people, places, and things. These are usually called called multiplayer games.
Some complex games (AI-driven) may require strong mathematical skills.
These are skills that I never developed into personal strengths in my life. Not being particularly strong in mathematics, I was stumped as to how I might apply game theory to my own life. I was surprised to discover at that point that though many experts in game-based thinking have these skills many do not. I also learned that there are many game thinking experts who question the value of any but the most basic mathematics in this area.
So where does one begin to apply this way of thinking? The easiest and most basic starting point in solving any problem in this way is to keep lists. Many problems arise because we ignore key details or steps in a process and this oversight at best sends us in the wrong direction and can also cause seemingly insurmountable problems to arise.
Within the umbrella of what the problem-solving experts call Classical Mathematical Game Theory, games are generally listed (classified) and named based on certain criteria. Some common names for specific tools that the experts use to define the type of game being played include Nash Equilibrium, Sequential, Perfect Information of Zero Sum, or a combination of these criteria.
These tools can then be used to solve specific problems or to successfully compete in the types of games studied by students of classic mathematical game theory. The most well-known games include Battle of the Sexes; Blotto, Cake Cutting, Centipede, Nash Bargaining Game, Peace War Game, Diner’s Dilemma, and many others. Let’s use Diner’s Dilemma as an example of a classic game theory approach to a practical life situation.
This is what a skilled game theorist needs to do before creating a workable strategy:
- Collect factual data.
- Review the resources, strengths, and weaknesses of an adversary,
- Organize and collate that data.
- Analyze this data.
- Write it up in a rational easy to easy-to-understand form
- Share it with team members,
- Move forward,
- Post it.
- …publicize or share it.

Testimonials
Here is what Jack Canfield, who wrote the introduction to Lewis’ book “Healing Depression Naturally” and who is the co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series, has to say about Lewis and his work.
“Lewis is amazing…. I recommend him to anyone who wants less stress and more energy.”

“Lewis, your program was one of the first steps I took in the process of defining my interest in alternative medicine and for that I thank you. It has been over 45 years and I am continually amazed when I look back upon how easily and quickly one step has led to the next. Thank you for being there to assist in laying the foundations for all my future studies.”

A friend started a fundraiser on GoFundMe and it would mean so much if you could take a look at it.
She wrote “Any help, like donating or sharing, gets Lewis closer to his goal. Thank you in advance for your kindness and support.”
