About Me — Robert Herron
Freelancer, Health Enthusiast, Big Sports Fan
Hi everyone, I’m Robert Herron from Brooklyn, NY, and this is my short bio. I’m a retired IT Tech/Director of 29 years. I was born in Tennessee, in 1952. We moved to New York around 1957. So, I’ve been around a while. I’m the oldest of five siblings.
Sports played a big part in my life. I was a 3 sport athlete in High School (basketball, baseball, and track). I played college basketball at Hunter College and Middle Tennessee St. in the ’70s. I had hoped to get a tryout with an ABA or NBA team, but it wasn’t in the cards. After college, I took some continuing education computer classes at NYU late ’70s. This was my introduction to the computer age, so I’m somewhat of a dinosaur. I remember my first computer, a Commodore 64.
I learned most of my computer skills while working in the banking industry for 2 years. Later I moved into the healthcare field working at Coney Island Hospital in the ’80s. I found out they had a basketball team that played in the Health and Hospital League against other hospitals. We won the championship for 8 straight years!
