Never Sacrifice Mental Well-Being for a Career — No Matter What
The company you work for isn’t a person. YOU are. Here’s my story.
TW: Agoraphobia, body imagery, sickness
You’ve been anticipating this job offer for months now.
Not from a certain company, or even for a certain position — you’ve been anxiously checking your email for weeks while putting in new job apps every day. You were giving it your best shot solely because your current job was making you sick, mentally and physically. Maybe you even spent ten days in April so miserable, nauseous and exhausted that you couldn’t look at your computer screen without gagging or crying.
Yes, it sounds dramatic. But it’s also the reality for many of us when a job pushes us to our limit.
Imagine you’ve spent the last two years at a company giving your job 110%. The place seems supportive and responsive, but you never really have to test the waters and find out if the support is genuine because you’re working extra hard to get ahead and meet their requirements. That is until your 110% becomes unsustainable.
You move house (one of the most stressful things you can do in life according to research), go through a breakup, grapple with your depression and anxiety, and work 10–12 hour days…
