2024: Not a year we’d wish to repeat
Happy Christmas! This year has been very different to our usual years. We haven’t been out in the caravan at all.
Some readers might remember we had a little house in Wales that we were letting out to tenants. Well, we had problems with the tenants trashing the house, so we put the rent up triggering them to move out in April. This left us with a house in a semi-derelict state, which needed restoring to something normal and attractive before we could put it on the market.
We hoped this would only take us a month, but it took two months to do the bulk of the work, and we were still discovering new horrors and making additional improvements four months later.
To give you a sense of what happened, unauthorised cats and dogs had been staying and had used the house as a toilet. There was greasy food splattered all over the walls, and the tenants had hung wet washing everywhere, every day, creating a mould problem, because they didn’t use the tumble dryer. There was dirt and cobwebs all over all the ceilings.
The place was filthy, smelly, and one of the kitchen cupboard doors was destroyed by water and hanging off its hinges. The kitchen worktop had been discoloured by goodness knows what! Water had…
