Once, I had no expectations, but unexpectedly, an offer letter arrived for my admission to RIE Ajmer for B.Sc.(H/P)B. Ed. My father’s happiness knew no bounds, and I, too, felt strangely content. He was thrilled because I got into an integrated B Sc.B.Ed program — a path that would lead me to become a teacher, a profession he had always wished for me. Other disciplines were not to his liking for girls, and I had a passion for mathematics, which I knew I might have to pursue far away from home.

Preparations for college began, and with blessings from elders, my father and I set off for Ajmer. As we reached the admission counter, we had to wait for the remaining formalities during lunchtime in the college’s botanical Garden. The vastness of the Garden filled my heart with joy.
The college, nestled amidst the valleys of hills, exuded a sense of serenity and promised a conducive environment for learning. My father spoke few words, as usual, expressing how the government had invested in such an institution for children’s education, urging me to study with dedication.

As my father narrated, a curious admirer once asked Raj Kapoor what he would be if he weren’t a hero in Mumbai. With humility and a twinkle in his eyes, Raj Kapoor responded, “I would be the best shoe polish boy, diligently shining shoes with pride and excellence.” His words reflected his undying dedication and passion for every role in life.

A momentous board displaying the names of previous toppers caught my eye. In that instant, I promised myself that my name would adorn that board four years from now. My father bid me farewell at the hostel gate, and his journey to Delhi began.

I shared a room with Rupali, whose mother had accompanied her for the initial setup. As Rupali’s mother left, I arranged everything by following my instinct and observing her preferences. There were light-hearted ragging sessions at night, and everyone from different states and schools shared their stories and achievements.

In the vibrant college atmosphere, I secured the fourth position in the first-year exams, surpassing students from renowned schools. My curiosity was piqued by three exceptional girls.
Jaya, Kiran, Babeeta and Seema have unique paths and aspirations.
Jaya exuded confidence with her impeccable handwriting, awe-inspiring performances, and her talent extended to singing, debates, and declamations.
My constant companion Kiran embraced life’s adventures with a carefree spirit.

Seema’s infectious joy and passion for dance kept my heart alive amidst academic challenges.
Drawn to their energy, I sought inspiration from their resilience and dedication. As the next academic year approached,
I embraced the excitement of growth and learning, unaware of the profound impact these remarkable women would have on my journey towards success.

Babeeta’s captivating brilliance and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand left a profound impact on me. Her intelligence and compassion inspired me to grow and be a better person every day.

In the final year, we could choose a subject for a 100-mark practical. I saw the topper opting for agriculture as her domain was Biology, a matter that guaranteed high scores. For me, the choice was between computer science and agriculture. Computer science had an 80-mark limit, and though I needed more confidence, I wanted to aim for the top position.

A computer science teacher noticed my hesitation and asked about my choice. I expressed my worries about competing with agriculture students who could score 98 out of 100. However, he understood my concerns and encouraged me to take up computer science, showing confidence in my abilities.

Determined, I immersed myself in the world of computers, understanding every detail, learning coding, running programs, and creating remarkable files that are still showcased in the lab for demonstration.

And finally, after four years of hard work and dedication, I achieved my goal — topping the B.Sc. (H) B.Ed program and winning the prestigious University Gold Medal.

It was a journey of dreams and choices, where I overcame doubts and found the courage to pursue my passion. Each step of the way, I had the support of friends like Rupali, who shared joy and struggles, and Seema, who motivated and guided me. And so, my journey continues, with the excitement of new challenges and the knowledge that I can overcome any obstacle with determination and perseverance.

Ultimately, I realized that it was not just about reaching the destination but about embracing the journey itself — a journey that shaped me into the person I am today.
