The Almost Famous Writer
An Interview with Judy Haratz Cohen
Hi, welcome back to our weekly interview series!
The About Me Stories publication is all about creating community here on Medium and finding out more about the person behind the pen (or laptop). This week we are talking with ex-teacher and grandmother Judy whose writing focuses on her observations of daily life.
So, let’s get started. Judy, could you tell us a little bit about the kind of writing you do?
I would describe my writing as an extension of how I speak. I like short sentences, that makes a point. Telling a story is always my goal. I come from a family of story tellers, and that means forget the long words and flowery descriptions.
How do you think your early fascination with the supernatural and horror genres in fiction, film and television shaped your way of viewing the world and your writing style?
I was a lonely child surrounded by adults. Children yearn for a place to escape and dream. I developed a fascination for sci fi and horror, and what the future might be like. It is where I go when I am alone. I dream the dream.
