When I do a predictive analysis I always ask what is the difference between thinking in the “general” and thinking in the “specific?”

This has to do with critical thinking, effective decision making, and as they say “seeing the forest through the trees.”

This is a well-worn idiom describing how a person, especially a person of power and influence makes a poor decision because they could not see the forest through the trees.” This speaks to the fact that a certain type of myopia can set in because this person develops hubris, excessive pride and a feeling of infallibility. This can happen when a leader feels over confident in his or her knowledge and abilities. It also happened when a decision maker see things in “general terms” when these things need to be seen from a “specific perspective. Or vice versa.

Let’s talk about the difference between observing something from a general perspective versus and specific one. I will also give some examples to flesh out the difference and why they are important.
