The Best Things in Life are Free
But that doesn’t mean they don’t cost you anything
Before I share my 4 favorite (free) things to do for my mental health, it’s important to understand what led me to discover these routines.
In the spring of 2021, after a rough year of teaching, I made the hard decision that the only way I could continue teaching was if I did less of it. These simple joys are only possible because of a monetary sacrifice that I made a couple of years ago.
I took a .5 FTE which equates to around 20 hours of work a week. Realistically, I spend at least 25–30 hours a week of work for a 20 hour a week paycheck. Despite my part-time status, I have come to terms that I will always struggles with over-committing and giving it my all.
To help balance out this part of my personality, I have implemented rhythms that help me enjoy some of the finer things of life.

Health & Movement — >
I enjoy a daily walk after getting home from work. If I run out of time when I get home, I take a few laps around our cul de sac while the kids play in the front yard.
Walking is grounding to me.
