The Journey of a Lifetime
It’s MY story
It was a sobering moment. We were driving back to London along the M4, and the Prime Minister, serious for once, announced the first national lockdown for COVID-19.
The coronavirus was real, and it was going to change my life.
I’ve always been fairly active. I enjoy most sports, was decent as a squash and tennis player, played the occasional 5-a-side football, and generally saw myself as quite fit.
“One hour of exercise per day” was something new.
Living near the Thames Path in West London, we decided that our exercise would be an hour’s walk along the Thames. We walked, usually each evening after work to Hammersmith Bridge and completed either “there and back walks” or circular walks experimenting with how far we could go, cross a different bridge and return. All within the hour, of course.

It was good! I enjoyed it. It was a daily routine of both exercise and good conversation with my partner. Sometimes with the kids, usually without. There’s no doubt, it was good.
