The Simple Mindset Shift That Instantly Made Writing Easier
What motivates you?
Likes, comments, follows. Seeing that notification count on your laptop. You feel a sense of joy. Instant gratification for the work you’ve done. But at some point, the notifications stop.
Maybe they never came at all. You put in hours of work with nothing to show for it. Or at least that’s what it may feel like.
If you got into writing only for fame and fortune, you will be severely disappointed. I’m sure you’ve heard this sentiment a thousand different times in a thousand different ways, but that doesn’t stop it from being true.
The point is, without goals outside of engagement and new followers, you will likely stop posting.
I’ve written for years and years with no other reason than to enjoy reading it again later to myself. Why change that now that I have the ability to post my writing publicly?
This mindset shift is what I think the key is to posting consistently for someone who probably isn’t seeing a lot of success with medium.
I first tried writing on medium nearly a year ago. I’d posted 4 or five times to either zero or 3 people. There was no engagement, no feedback, nothing.
