The Time I Had Amnesia

We all have memories. Data or information tied to our experiences that is encoded, stored, and retrieved when needed.

After all, what is memory is the retention of information over time for the purpose of influencing future action, and hopefully wise and wiser choices.

Please consider this — if past events could not be remembered, it would be impossible for language, relationships, or personal identity to develop. Memory-loss is usually described as forgetfulness or amnesia.

I always get some strange pleasure looking back and remembering or not remembering my fifteen hours of amnesia.

Here I describe what happened as if I am there in that very moment.

The Event

I open my eyes and I know something is out of kilter. The instant I open my eyes I know something doesn’t fit. I don’t think I’m dreaming, though I’m having the experience one has if they are trapped in a dream. You know it’s a dream because you don’t have these types of experiences in a waking state. Feeling a heaviness on my right arm I look at it and see that it is raised in an elevated position in front of me, and that I am holding a plate of eggs in my hand. This makes no sense?
