Turkey Coach Trip Walk of Shame
Early departure and being late
Have you ever been on a coach trip where you’ve had to force yourself out of bed at the crack of dawn to join other hapless sleepy travellers for a 6:45 am start, only to find that the coach could not leave on time as the last 2 people arrived 30 minutes late?
Unfortunately, my wife and I were the 2 people who were late on just such a trip and it did not go down well!
This all took place at the beginning of an 11-day round trip, Turkey coach tour which would start in Istanbul and take in Ankara, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Ephesus, Izmir, Pergamon, Troy and Canakkale before heading back to Istanbul.
It would be an epic journey of continually shifting landscape from the stop-start, bumper-to-bumper traffic jam nightmare that is Istanbul, through the weird and wonderful rock formations of Cappadocia, moving past distant, silent mountains of central Turkey and white travertine terraces of Pamukkale before reaching the picturesque beach resort of Izmir.
When I think back on this trip, several lasting impressions linger in my mind. The aesthetic beauty of the mosques and how strikingly different they are both in appearance and in concept from the Christian churches that I’m more familiar with.
