What I Learned From Owning A Hedgehog
Hopefully this helps some future or even current owners
I had little knowledge going into owning my hedgehog and learned a lot along the way but I would do it all over again. I absolutely loved having my hedgehog as a pet and really a member of my family.
Sadly, she passed away at the age of 7 which by hedgehog standards is really old. This leads me into my first point that most hedgehogs only live 3–4 years. When I took my hedgehog to the vet, they said she was the oldest one he had seen.
So please be prepared for that. A common illness that they can acquire is a thing called WHS or wobbly hedgehog syndrome. You can look up more information on this online or talk to your vet about it.
My second point is just like any other type of animal, they have different personalities and many different species/colors. If you are expecting to get one that is like all the Instagram hedgehogs you see, be prepared to not have that happen.
Not all heggies are going to pose for pictures, wear adorable small clothing items and are seemingly the sweetest misunderstood pokey pet.
