When I Let Go of Achievement to Meet Myself
Delaying graduation taught me something no award ever could.
I should have graduated last year. I should have walked across that stage, wearing a proud smile and a graduation robe that shimmered with accomplishment. 2024 was supposed to be my year — the end of a chapter I had written so diligently.
But I didn’t graduate.
Not because I failed, but because I chose not to rush.
And that decision, though quiet and unexpected, changed everything.
The Dream of Being “Good Enough”
Since I was a child, I’ve been chasing stars — literally and metaphorically.
I remember being nine or ten, standing under a black sky, my palms open to the falling light. I used to pray under shooting stars, asking God to make me number one in class. And most of the time, I was. Elementary, middle school, high school — top student. First place. Full marks. The “good one.” The pride of my family.
I didn’t question it back then. It felt natural. Like I was fulfilling some kind of invisible contract.
