My Dream?
I always wanted to write a book with meaning, one that would evoke every emotion humanly possible. But! I grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. The people in my tiny hometown said frequently, “He’ll never amount to anything and will probably just die another drunk.”
Why did I want to write, and why did I want my words to have meaning?
In the fifth grade, I was given a homework assignment to read “Old Yeller” by Fred Gipson. the first book I had ever read. Once I started reading, I could not stop; the story grabbed my heart, and I would not let go. While reading it, I wept, laughed, got angry, and experienced life without getting off my Grandmother’s front porch.
My takeaway from the read? ‘Man, I wish I could do that!’
