Why I Became a Pharmacist?
My distinctive Journey.
Sometimes, life leads one to wonderful unexpected destinations, but I would say that my way to become a pharmacist was a calling rather than a coincidence.
I was particularly inspired by the healthcare professionals had on people’s lives as they grew up. My father always shared stories of people’s grit and resilience in times of strain and their dedication and commitment to the country. In childhood, my parents planted a purpose of life in my heart to serve humanity uniquely.
Another memory, I recall is accompanying my childhood friend’s father, an old neighborhood health store owner who wore scrawny shorts and never needed candy. I used to be so amazed at how the pharmacist could listen to all the drama and advise the patient, but most were encouraged.
My father always says, “Medicine cures body, kindness, soul,” and this simple phrase stuck with me for a long time.
Pharmacists are more than just medicine disbursement; it involves medicating the bridges of trust between healthcare providers and the people they serve.
For me, pharmacy was perfectly resembled science mixed with service when I began my education. The accuracy got me melted. I just loved the thought that solving the magic of medicine was completely understood in terms of what compounds do together within the human body to make therapeutic use as safe and effective as possible.
Studying, the field of chemistry, was not always an easy thing. Long hours with chemical formulas, drug interactions, or the complexity of the human body challenged my patience.
Then there came the moments when I doubted if I could handle the responsibility. But then, I would recall the people I aimed to serve. The thought of contributing to their well-being kept me going.
The moments I am most proud of as a pharmacist are not when I figure out the solution to a complex prescription. They are the solitary instances when I held close a troubled patient, comforted an anxious parent, or educated someone on their medication doubt part of being a pharmacist.
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life,” Confucius said.
Today, as I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for choosing this path. It’s not just about dispensing medications; it’s about dispensing hope, compassion, and care.
Through pharmacy, I’ve found my way to serve humanity, just as my father inspired me to do.
And that, for me, is the true essence of being a pharmacist.
