A personal story about writing online, slowly building an audience, and why the words still come before the money
I didn’t come to Medium with a plan. I came here tired. Tired of short attention spans pretending to be opinions. Tired of advice written by people who haven’t lived long enough to pay for it. Tired of watching good ideas get flattened into tweets and bad ideas go viral because they fit neatly into a square.
So I started writing anyway.
Almost every day. For more than six months.
No launch. No hype. No audience waiting on the other side.
Just stories, essays, lists, confessions, and observations written in the margins of real life.
Most days, nothing happened.
No applause. No meaningful traction. Just the quiet, stubborn act of showing up and putting words somewhere they could breathe.
In December, Medium paid me a little over $30.
