My Bio

Hi! I’m Quy Ma. Welcome to my About Me story!

The first thing you’re probably wondering is, “How do you say his name?” If we were introducing ourselves to each other in person, you’d probably perk your ears up and listen intently to how I’m saying my name. But since we’re doing this over the internet, I’ll spare you the embarrassment of potentially butchering my name and let you google it! Just kidding, it’s pronounced “kwee” like the word soliloquy and “maw” like the “jaws or throat of a voracious animal,” according to Oxford.

But I digress, you wanted to…

A mum and a writer, it’s what I was always meant to be

Dinner out with my boys, living my best life!

I’m a self-diagnosed Autistic and ADHDer mum to two boys and that is truly what I’ve always wanted to be (a mum not the Autistic ADHDer but I wouldn’t be me without that!).

Before I became a mum I couldn’t see past it; any career choices seemed irrelevant until I had my babies. The moment I became a mum, it unleashed my inner writer which had been lying dormant for many years. …

Tan me, somewhere in Greece.

Dear readers,

Welcome to my little precious corner on the internet. It’s a pleasure and honor to have you here.

Some random facts about me:

  • I’m half American, half German. More specifically US-born and European-raised. While I consider myself to be more European, I love the States and keep coming back here. I currently live in LA.
  • So far, I’ve had a very corporate career as a management consultant, but most of my friends would say I’m not a very corporate person.
  • A few years ago I was afraid of dogs, and now I have an adorable Cavapoo puppy named…

Author’s note: The following is based on a true story, and so some things may or may not be real…but lawsuits are very real, so use your imagination!

The Dream Engine’s cyclopean eye pierces right into the soul of those who would approach it to unlock its many secrets. It can do many things: healing wounds to traveling across time, space, and the multiverse, destroying lives or creating worlds, bringing great wealth and fame, and speaking to the hearts and souls of many. And yet, few know how to use the Dream Engine, for their minds are not prepared to…

That which we cannot see.

I recently painted a self portrait for my wife’s birthday. While considering the composition and clumsily trying to set up a pair of mirrors in my studio, it occurred to me that I am more than a little unfamiliar with the back of my head. I adjusted the mirrors so that I would have a view from directly behind. I found that I have an interesting head. Who’d have guessed?

I have a 55 year old’s lived-in face, I would describe my looks as unusual. I lost my hair as a young man and grew…

My blogging style tends to involve writing about my own life experiences in some way while focusing on topics such as studying, travel and personal development, and so I expected the process of writing this ‘About me’ post to feel no different.

I’m unsure as to why this piece of writing has been so challenging for me. I usually aim to spend between 1–2 hours writing one blog post, though I’m anxious that this may take significantly longer.

Maybe it’s because I tend to go into lots of detail about my experiences and therefore struggle to sum them all up…

Smiling Krystle McGilvery in funky glasses

Below is a mish-mash of my life thus far. I questioned whether this should talk purely about finance/maths-related things, but decided I am a complex woman and shall exist as such.

My intention?

I wish for you to learn a little more about the various sides of me, and I’ve challenged myself to not hide behind an excel spreadsheet! I hope you enjoy reading about my journey thus far.

Let’s go!

Glasses, anxiety, and failing university

At seven years old I was prescribed glasses for myopia (short-sightedness, being able to only see things close by). …

“And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” – F.Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby.

This is one of my favourite quotes from The Great Gatsby.

Hello there, my name is Marrisa – or at least it is here, my real name is different. Due to privacy issues, I created a pseudonym; it forms a barrier between my real life and my online self. …

Why Medium: I had made a log of my journeys on Facebook. People told me they enjoyed my writing style and encouraged me to do something more with it. Now that I have downtime, I thought I would give it a try. It’s a little intimidating and I have a lot to learn. Even if it doesn’t amount to much, I will still gain something along the way — and I hope others do too.

I hope to relate to and inspire others: I want to share my stories with people — because many of our life walks have similarities…
