ENGL 3880: The Brainstorm
So in my English class at Georgia State University I was given the task of creating a topic that will last the entire semester. As I was speaking with my professor so many ideas came to mind and I will go through the process of gathering my ideas and formulating a topic that has longevity for the entire 14 weeks of the semester.
My first idea was writing about the “sit ins” during the civil rights period. Many African Americans were denied the opportunity to interact with their Caucasian counter parts during a time period where African Americans weren't being viewed as citizens. The “sit-ins” were protests against the businesses that included separation into their companies. Therefore, African Americans or other people that supported the rights of all; would sit at these “white only” restaurant counters as a protest for equality and respect. This behavior was a major factor in the movement for civil rights, especially in the south.
Secondly, I want to discuss the life and journey of Beyonce. Beyonce has been at the center-stone of one of the best female artist from the South. She entered the music industry at a young age and has trampled the competition. Beyonce has included her southern charm by creating songs like, “Bootylicious.” When you think of the southern region states many of the women are viewed as having sculptured butts. This is a piece of the south that one can suggest that Beyonce includes in her wardrobe. Many times she states that she has been created as the “princess of the south.” On the other hand, would Beyonce’s life or southern icon give me the information to last an entire semester? Is there anything that I can gather that people don’t know about her southenness beside her butt incorporation in her music and wardrobe?
As I begin to gather these thoughts I begin to feel the frustration multiplying in my mind. I want to pick the topic that has my interest and is connected to me as a creative individual. The “sit-ins” speaks to my culture, while Beyonce speaks to my musical soul and my southenness. Regardless of the topic I pick, I must deliver an exceptional presentation. If my presentation changes the thought process of just one person, i will say job well done!
