Don’t Take a Ride in a Bucket
During a pivotal scene in the 1985 film The Goonies, Andi had a chance to leave The Goonies behind in the catacombs to join Troy Perkins (her arrogant boyfriend) back up top on the surface. Troy sends down a bucket after Andi asks him to (with Troy hoping it will end with certain, er, perks), but Mikey offers up a rousing speech with the hopes of changing her mind — and the minds of anyone else who’d be willing to go back up top and leave their adventure down below behind.
“Their time, up there. Down here, it’s our time. It’s our time down here. That’s all over the second we ride up Troy’s bucket.”
We need to hold onto our time as much as we can, especially in times of uncertainty. Once we take a ride in Troy’s bucket, we give that up.
Pursue what matters to you, undaunted. Power through what gets in your way, unfazed. Your path is your path. No one else’s. That means the only type of bucket that should matter to you is the bucket list you’ve made for yourself.
Remember, it’s your time down here. Make it count.
