I’ve tried many strategies involving building playlists on Spotify (and Apple Music) but I’ve found the following one to be the most productive… and the most memorable.

Build your playlists according to the month of the year.

Every time a new month starts, create a new playlist named after that month. Then as a song comes to mind, is delivered to you, or anything in between just add that song to that months playlist.

When you do this it’ll connect the song with a time period, creating a more memorable experience. You’ll also spend less time coming up with clever names for playlists, allowing you to focus on other things and letting music land on a playlist based on months of the year over anything else.

I’ll actually listen to a month’s playlist at the end of that month when conducting any sort of monthly review. I believe listening to the playlist for that month helps me during that reflection process.

Give this tip a try. It might just be music to your ears… and your productivity.
