Lurk and Learn

I’ve been spending a bit of time on platforms like TikTok and Clubhouse (I’m mikevardy there) lately. I’m not necessarily investing that time, mainly because I’m doing a lot of lurking and learning.

Lurking lets me get a sense of how things work without having to do much in the way of putting myself out there publicly. I can check out the different ways that Clubhouse rooms and events work, see what kind of content really works on TikTok, and get more familiar with everything in between.

Ultimately, lurking leads to learning. Through learning I can decide what — if anything — I’ll use these platforms for and how I’ll go about setting aside the time needed to truly invest in them. (Again, this is if I decide to move forward with them at all.)

When you’re starting something new — especially something like a social media platform or something where you’ll be creating and sharing content — take time to lurk so that you can learn.

Then you can really put in the labour needed to make all of that lurking and learning worthwhile.
