The lyrics to the song “Monday, Monday” by The Mamas and The Papas present opposing thoughts on Mondays.
In the first verse, the song praises the day. Monday morning, especially, was all that the singer hoped it would be.
Then Monday took a turn. By the end of the day, Monday has betrayed the singer, giving no warning of what was going to happen and leaving him “cryin’ all of the time.”
By the end of the song, he’s come to terms with the fact that Monday “Won’t go away” and what it brings is “here to stay.” He knows Monday can’t be trusted and that every Monday just turns out the way it does every time.
But he also knows that every other day of the week is fine. I think he takes solace in that. He knows that the certainty of what Monday brings is offset by the fact the remaining six days of the week will be fine.
If you’re reading this on a Monday and you’re feeling overwhelmed by what this particular day brings your way, know that every other day of the week will be fine.
Even though you can’t trust Monday, I trust that knowing the rest of the week will be fine will get you through this Monday… and every other Monday to come.
