As one of the 143 million US consumers impacted by the Equifax security breach, I’ve been following the updates pretty closely. This week we learned several new details, including the fact that there was knowledge of a major breach back in March (which may or may not be related to the one in July).

Naturally I have questions, all of which are for the CEO Richard Smith. Allow me to share them with you…

Why do you still have a job?

Why did it take six weeks five months to inform us about such a major security breach?

Why didn’t your team develop a better response plan for such a major security breach?

Why is it possible for a login and password to be “admin” in one of your databases?

Do you expect us to believe that your three executives (including your Chief Financial Officer) weren’t aware of the breach when they decided to sell $1.8M in stock last month?

No but seriously: Why did it take you six weeks after the July 29th breach to make an announcement?

Did you fire your PR team yet?

How are you still in business?

How can we trust that this won’t happen again in the future?

Will you give people a way to avoid ever having their data stored with you again?

If any of you know Mr. Smith, slide this week’s Above the Bottom Line newsletter into his inbox will you?

With frozen credit love,
@NikitaTMitchell
