The atom of sacredness

… within us all

This is the nineteenth in a series of inspired articles which were channelled in the days following the attack by Hamas on Israel in October and the response by the IDF in the weeks that followed.

I have set up this publication just for the purpose of sharing this perspective. I make no claims as to its Source and I refrain from editing it, over and above making it readable.

I, like the majority of the world, am reliant on news stories for information. In that sense the starting point for this inspiration is what I read and see around me, and that will inevitably shape at least part of the response.

Equally, any reader will be influenced by their life experience and personal beliefs, and that is how it should be. I believe that by sharing our perspectives, hopes, fears, and dreams we will come to know each other better and our humanity will shine through. Surely, this is the road to peace?

‘In the depth of the midwinter every shoot looks the same and every branch is skeletal, it takes the warmth of spring to bring forth buds and fruit and this is what you must contend with. The turning of the spirals of growth, the outworking of Creation and your part within that.

‘I know you are questioning your own ability to turn the page on one conflict and move back into the comfort zone of your life. That outworking of a different kind of powerlessness, the inability to help others who are losing their lives, their country, and their hope in, and hold on, humanity. One side has let go of their hold and in being allowed to do so, are extinguishing hope, not just for one generation, but for years to come.

‘These wars will not end when the bombs cease falling, they will echo in people’s hearts and minds for generations to come. They will ring out in the desperate means the survivors will employ to deadened their pain and end their suffering. Suffering that bears the weight of history and will continue to do so.

‘I know that as you see the images of what remains of people’s cities, homes, and communities you wonder what the aggressor is fighting for? Surely, not more land because they have already destroyed their prize. Surely not for more personal glory because no enemy bombed into submission is ever truly defeated. They morph into mythical creatures that promise hope to those who feel oppressed or marginalised. They prosper in the dark soil of discontent where, like the shoots in mid-winter, they look like all other shoots until the warmth of attention nurtures them into form and identity.

‘The scale of the destruction you are witnessing currently is unprecedented, partly because it is so limited geographically and because it is so unequal in access to armaments, but not in the determination of the combatants.

What became an unbearable truth was your realisation that there was one macabre equality, and that is in the disregard for the lives of the innocent on both sides. Everyone has become objectified and that is how evil thrives, it denies love, it abases innocence, and it becomes a hungry ghost that will stalk the corridors of power for generations to come.

‘As the country lies in tatters and generations of its traumatised population look out from under their flimsy shelters at each other and feel so isolated from humanity, it is difficult to see where the healing can begin. Hard to imagine anyone, from either side, emerging from this experience intact, you included, it instils fear within the atmosphere of the entire world and all breathe it in.

‘But, as much as mankind have their fingers on the buttons of destruction, they also have their fingers on the means of resolution. As much as fear pervades the atmosphere of the world, so does the primordial pain behind that fear, that primeval sense that if we extinguish our individual human goodness we will be forever damming the whole human race.

‘Much as I struggle to find the words to explain what I am saying, you know what I mean. You know it, and you feel it. Everyone on this planet knows it and feels it, it is that atom of sacredness that is our collective essence. It is the whole of what I am in Spirit and indeed the whole of what you are in life, you just do not know it. It remains pure unto itself regardless of whether it is denied, confined by beliefs or nurtured, but when it is accepted it blossoms with a perfume that fills the entire universe.

‘I do not wish to repeat the platitudes of, “within all darkness there is light’, however true that is, sometimes you have to sit with the darkness until the shoots are strong enough to break new ground. And new ground is precisely what this new Age is breaking and that is where hope lies, for generations to come. Peace be with you.’
