I love pizza. I also love wholesome tasty ingredients. And I also don’t want to feel like I need to repent by spending a week eating clean if I indulge in pizza.

So I’ve hacked pizza. Truth be told, you barely do any work, the work is almost entirely done for you. Get your favorite toppings, prepare a quick pizza sauce, make sure you have good cheese, and you’re set. Here we go pizza maestros. Home-made pizza game is about to get a level up.

Ingredients:

  • Protein bread (wrap)
  • 1 can of chopped / strained tomatoes
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 5–6 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
  • Salt & pepper
  • Oregano
  • 3 tablespoons of sliced black olives
  • 7–8 fresh mushrooms
  • 1 capsicum
  • Salami / pepperoni slices (for the non-vegans/vegetarians out there)
  • Fresh basil (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup gouda cheese
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (optional)

Directions:

  • Dice the onion and garlic into fine cubes, and toss them into a saucepan along with 4 tbsp olive oil.
  • Once the onion & garlic are golden in color, add the can of chopped tomatoes and around a half tsp each of salt & black pepper.
  • Once the mixture comes to a boil, lower the fire, add the balsamic vinegar, and cover and let it simmer for around 20 min so it becomes a thick / creamy-ish texture.
  • In the meantime, chop up all your toppings: capsicum, mushrooms, olives, salami, etc…
  • Line an oven tray with aluminum foil, and spread the protein bread wraps on it, now pour 1 tbsp of olive oil on to 1 pita, and spread the olive oil to entirely coat the wrap. Take that wrap, and place it wet face down onto another wrap, and press it a bit so that the other wrap absorbs the olive oil. Do the same for all wraps.
  • Now place the olive oil coated wraps in the oven for around 10 min (at 170C) or until the wrap becomes slightly firm as opposed to soft. this will prevent the wrap from soaking too much pizza sauce, and so you wont need to deal with a soggy base when devouring your pizza.
  • Remove the wraps from the oven, and spread a generous amount of pizza sauce on each wrap, and sprinkle some oregano on top of the sauce. Start layering your pizzas. I usually put all toppings and top them with cheese and basil & some more oregano.
  • Place your lovely cheat-zas in the oven and cook at 170C for around 15 min or until the cheese has melted.
  • Remove, devour and thank me later :)
