Time for Integration

Any reasonable personal trainer will advise you to schedule proper time to rest between workouts.

There is actual science behind this. We do not experience muscle growth during the actual workout itself. The growth occurs during the resting period afterwards when your body is repairing the muscle fibers.

The same can be said of personal growth and transformation.

There is only so much that you can absorb before you need time to integrate.

Sometimes we can get by with micro-integrations. We step out for lunch or coffee, go for a walk outside or get lost in social media. We allow our brains time to decompress and process what we’re experiencing even if that isn’t always our intention.

Other times, we require longer periods of integration and self care. The more significant the experience, the greater the requirement. This could be getting out into nature, sleeping in late, taking a day off the grid, going on vacation or a relaxing weekend getaway.

My own personal journey feels like it has been exponentially accelerating. I haven’t always been the best at scheduling the proper integration time required to match that acceleration. When I don’t schedule that time, it finds a way to schedule itself without my consent and rather inconveniently.

As we share this journey together, let’s remind each other that sometimes what our body is asking us more than anything is to step out of the gym and take a nap so the real growth can take place.
