In a statement put out earlier today, Blue Jays President and CEO Mark Shapiro expressed his condolences to the Halladay family, as well as his admiration of both the player and person that Roy was.

“Through Roy’s values, pride, work ethic, and perseverance, he epitomized what it means to be a Blue Jay. And while his legacy is clear, it goes far beyond the number on his back or his on-field accomplishments, serving as a shining example of how to live a meaningful life and positively impact others.”

Halladay will join Roberto Alomar as the only other member of the Blue Jays alumni to have their jersey numbers retired.

Along with retiring his number, the Jays will commemorate Halladay’s legacy by wearing a uniform patch with his number (32) on it.
