NHL officials claim that the play (shown below) that occurred against the Vegas Golden Knights on December 31 7:30 after the second period, has broken Rule #64.

As written on NHL.com:

“NHL Rule 64 is designed to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties.”

Andersen was given a warning on Nov. 24, while playing in net against the Caroline Hurricanes. According to NHL officials, Andersen had dived intentionally during the game, resulting in a warning. Since he was already issued a warning, NHL had no choice but to fine him $2,000.

This is the first time an NHL goalie has been fined for diving since Michal Neuvirth in February 2015.

Frederik Andersen and the Toronto Maple Leafs will play against the San Jose Sharks in the Air Canada Centre tonight at 7:00pm.
