GenM Student Success: How Jolo is Taking Action and Making His Dreams Come True

A lot of people want to become digital nomads—but Jolo Du was brave enough to take the necessary steps to get even closer to his dream of being a travel vlogger. Now, he’s successfully completed two apprenticeships and is on his way to finishing his undergrad!

We asked Jolo about why he was on the platform and what he learned. He’s also shared some tips for everyone who is ready to take action and reach their goals!

Hi Jolo! Can you tell us why you wanted to do a digital marketing apprenticeship?

I did apprenticeships because I want to become a digital nomad.

Who did you apprentice with and what skills did you gain?

I apprenticed with Janus Tiu, owner of Poseek Branding Agency and Wali Arshad, owner of Afghan Kitchen.

Through my apprenticeships, I have learned more about social media, graphic design, and content marketing. I have also been trying to improve my video editing and graphic design skills.

How much experience did you have before your apprenticeship and what were your key takeaways after you completed it?

None. I had no experience.

My first mentor reached out to me on my first day of downloading the app, and the experience has opened my eyes to the different tools people use to create amazing videos and pictures on social media.

Can you share some of your top tips for GenM students who want to secure an apprenticeship?

1. Be patient.

Good things come to those who wait.

2. Know which field you want to get into.

Knowing what you want to learn will help you find the perfect mentor.

3. Don’t be afraid to get rejected.

Rejection happens — treat it as a learning experience.

What are your favorite marketing tools?

I like Adobe Spark and Inshot

What is your dream job?

I want to be a Travel Vlogger.

What’s next for you?

I am planning to finish my Undergrad in Psychology this December and continue building my experience in social media.

My end goal would be working remotely so that I can meet other artists like myself in different parts of the world.
