How to Introduce Yourself to Business Owners on GenM

As a GenM student, you have the chance to get the experience you need and develop the skills you want in digital marketing. The platform allows you to create your profile, access free courses, and apply to apprenticeship programs with the business or mentor of your choice. You’ll have the chance to connect to tons of business owners who are willing to mentor and teach you how to become a highly-skilled digital marketer.

But how do you connect with businesses and a possible mentor?

Make sure you introduce yourself. They don’t know so you have to communicate with them first and tell them more about what you can do or are looking for. Do you want to learn digital marketing? Do you want to learn about SEO or content marketing? Are you already experienced but want more exposure to different types of businesses? Letting businesses know what you want to do and can offer, will help them see how you will fit with them.

GenM’s goal is to let you learn in the best and most fun way to do so. Setting the groundwork and letting businesses know what you’re in for will help establish the right expectations. It is also an excellent way to filter which businesses are on the same page as you are. Some mentors will always be better or more aligned to help you than others.

To find the right apprenticeship, we recommend messaging at least 5 to 10 business owners. Ideally, your introduction should go like this:

Hi Grace,

My name is Camila, and I’m looking to gain more experience in content writing, market research, and SEO. What are your company’s goals? What are some of the tasks that you need help with?

Talk soon,

Camila

Own your message. Tailor it according to your goals. There are more than 5,000 businesses on GenM. Surely, there will be someone who can be an excellent mentor to you. Just to give a rundown, here are the steps on how you can reach out to prospective mentors on GenM:

  • List the skills you can offer or want to develop
  • Write a short introduction/overview of yourself that you can send to five to ten business owners
  • Make sure to check your messages on GenM regularly so you can take advantage of the opportunity as soon as possible
  • Schedule a follow-up call with the potential mentors
  • Don’t forget to ask for a labor contract when you find the right mentor

Starting an apprenticeship at GenM is easy. Know what you want, the skills you can offer and be proactive in reaching out and communicating with business owners to find the right apprenticeship program.
