GenM Student Success: How this MBA Student Boosted Her Career with a GenM Apprenticeship

Jadia Joseph entered GenM while completing her MBA, with the goal of learning more about digital marketing tools and applications—and she was not disappointed. Now, she’s even better at doing her job.

Jadia graduated from university with a degree in Land and Survey Information, but, in her own words, life had different plans for her. Read about how she learned about different marketing tools and platforms through her GenM apprenticeship.

Hi Jadia! Can you tell us how you found GenM?

I recently graduated with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. While I was studying, I noticed that digital marketing was gaining more traction, so I wanted to learn more about it. I searched online for more information and came across GenM.

I tried it, and here I am.

Why did you want to do an online marketing apprenticeship?

I wanted to do an apprenticeship to gain a greater understanding of digital marketing applications.

Who did you apprentice with and what skills did you gain?

I apprenticed for Elise Mack-Nelson, owner of My Scheduled Biz. I gained skills in social media, graphic design, content marketing, and marketing automation.

The most important thing I learned from my apprenticeship is that you need to have open communication with your mentor. Communication develops an honest rapport and makes discussion about various topics less stressful.

How much digital marketing experience did you have before your apprenticeship and what were your key takeaways after you completed it?

None. I did my Bachelor’s Degree in Land and Survey Information. However, life had other plans for me. I currently work at an advertising agency that I do a bit of everything for—from graphic design to media buying.

Aside from learning about business automation, social media, and content marketing,

I was also able to improve my resume and get job interviews.

The new skills helped me in advising clients—especially with business automation, in particular social media integration with their advertising needs.

Can you share some of your top tips for GenM students who want to secure an apprenticeship?

My top 3 tips are:

1. Be honest about your level of experience, even if it’s no experience

2. Be willing to learn, no matter how insignificant a task may seem

3. Be open to learning more than just your assigned tasks

What are your favorite marketing tools?

My favorite marketing tools are: Buffer, Tailwind, Zapier, and Affinity.

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to be able to work from home, while still satisfying the marketing needs of any company.

What‘s next for you?

I am considering expanding into the digital marketing sphere in my country, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Also, I am considering the possibility of freelancing regionally and internationally.
