However, it was the world of digital marketing and it’s tendency for rapid changes and developments that made him want to pursue a career in the field.

Now with over a year of experience under his belt, Addisson is even closer to achieving his career goals!

Hi Addisson! So first, tell us — what was your main reason for wanting to do an online digital marketing apprenticeship?

After completing my first marketing internship, I wanted to learn more about marketing. As I did some Google searches online about potential marketing jobs, I found that digital marketing sounded really satisfying to me because of the variety of tasks you are able to do.

The problem was I couldn’t find anywhere to get hands-on practice with subjects such as advertising, social media management, and analytics.

When I found GenM and discovered their apprenticeship platform, I got started immediately.

What apprenticeships have you completed and with who?

I’m currently in a mentorship with Rich Clominson who is the CEO of Failory. Failory is a website dedicated to showcasing failed startups and the lessons learnt from them. It also features interviews with successful entrepreneurs, including those who have gone on to succeed after their business failures.

What digital marketing experience did you have when you applied for your apprenticeship?

I had completed the Udacity Digital Marketing Nanodegree. I’ve now gained experience in social media, SEO and marketing automation.

What are your top tips for students looking to secure an apprenticeship through GenM?

1. Be very upfront with what you want out of the apprenticeship.

This ensures both you and your mentor are on the same path.

2. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and offer new ideas.

3. Always remain respectful and check in with your mentor.

Don’t leave them wondering what you’re doing!

Favorite marketing tool(s) you use in your work?

I mainly use Canva, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Notion, and Slack. All of these tools have been extremely helpful.

What’s your dream job?

My dream job is to become a Digital Marketing Manager at a big company and then eventually, create my own company.

I love how the field is rapidly changing allowing me to always learn something new and adjust my skill set.

I’m always excited to learn more about digital marketing and it’s current and future technologies, strategies, and best practices.

What are your next steps?

I will continue working with my mentor and hopefully gain even more experience so I can secure a job. I have developed such a good relationship with my mentor that I want to continue working with him!
