Working hard to make work easy

We think Acast is a pretty wonderful place to work, but it’s always reassuring to have a third party tell you they think the same. So Acast being named as one of Campaign magazine’s Best Places to Work in the UK feels like some well-deserved recognition for the culture we’ve worked so hard to build here over the past five years or so.

The phrase ‘company culture’ has undoubtedly lost some of its meaning — and has become one of those industry buzzwords people tend to roll their eyes at — but getting it right has a huge knock-on effect for the entire business.

Companies go wrong when they see ‘culture’ as free fruit or a good healthcare package. Of course, all the little things do add up — and perks like this are definitely valued by employees — but nurturing a culture you can truly be proud of as a business takes so much more.

If you throw a big Christmas party you might see a spike in productivity and retention for a few weeks, but don’t be surprised when things tail off again. Proper culture takes time and commitment, every single day — and, as a senior management team, you have to walk the walk.

But don’t just take my word for it — here are a few opinions from our people in the UK.

“Culture can often be used as a nonsense, vapid word, but I genuinely think there is one here — and I think that’s a really big factor in why we’re so successful commercially.” John, Content Partnerships Coordinator

“Nobody hides, everyone’s work is acknowledged and noted, and you know just what your input leads to.” Dapo, Sales Planner

“This was my first job in the UK having moved halfway across the world from Australia, and people were so welcoming and encouraging. It’s such a great environment and vibe in the office every day.” Phoebe, Project Manager

“As podcasting is a relatively new medium, it’s so fun working somewhere where you’re always moving into a different space and thinking outside the box.” Seema, Key Account Director

“We have a real start-up mentality which is something we’ve worked hard to maintain as we scale as a business. Every year we seem to move offices and grow and expand, but we always manage to maintain this great culture.” Leo, Key Account Director

“I love working with the people here. They’re doing such pioneering things — things that nobody else is doing — but they’re all such lovely people as well, which makes a big difference.” Daisy, Office Manager

TL;DR? Acast puts its employees first, because we know that if we empower our people to be the best they can possibly be, the rest will follow.

The best part is, we’re growing so quickly that there are always plenty of opportunities to join us. And, if you’re quick, you’ll even be on board in time for our annual global getaway, Acamp.
