I really like pop music. Pop constantly renews itself: when I think about the genre, I also think about the future. Today’s pop culture is so different from that of the past’s. Take for example rock music — it played such a big role in pop culture in the past. People sang rock songs and adopted the rock attitude. Rock artists like Jimi Hendrix pushed a generation to stop the war in Vietnam and bands like The Kinks pushed for LGBT rights. Similarly, in pop culture today, musicians and television stars play an important role in society. For example, Sia heavily engages with contemporary issues. I also really like the quality of pop music! Pop singers today do a lot to help the poor and the world. For instance, some have helped to protect the environment. Therefore, as a whole, I think that pop culture is very important to our society because it relates to many people in the world. In the past, pop music might not have been as impactful as it is today. But, by working on obtaining LGBT rights and attempting to bring minority issues to the forefront in the United States, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé respectively have changed the lives of many people around the world.
