We’re setting up a new Equality Group…

We’re launching a new group called the Accord Equality Group as part of our new approach to equality, diversity and inclusion. We want you to be involved to help us develop our long-term strategy and to establish our priorities.

Accord’s Chris Rimell explains:

I stood in front of a packed auditorium at the Accord Conference, talking about equality, diversity and inclusion at the Accord Conference — it’s hard to believe that was April, it feels like only yesterday. Conference is a big deal, it’s where the union’s policies and agenda are agreed. The hard work comes after…

Through conference, you asked us to take a look at our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, and we’ve been doing just that. There were a number of things we needed to do behind the scenes, including ensuring we had the authority from the union’s Principal Executive Council (PEC) to establish a new body to assist us. I’m pleased to say, everything is now in place, and we’re creating a new member-led group.

The Accord Equality Group is different to anything we’ve had previously, it’s more flexible without the bureaucratic overhead that comes with committees or working groups. The remit is substantially different too, the group will be directly influencing what we do, how we do it and when.

Interested? All you need is enthusiasm and an interest in all things related to equality, diversity and inclusion — you don’t have to be an expert, and it doesn’t matter if you’ve never been involved in the formal democratic structures of the union previously. We’ll provide training too, so we’re not throwing you in at the deep end!
