Acas published new guidance this week to help address discrimination at work against people who have or don’t have a religion or belief, to support best practice and to help employers handle complaints when they arise.

You can view the guidance here: www.acas.org.uk/religionorbelief

A person’s religion or belief, or lack of it, is important to them. It’s part of who they are and respect for that is important in all aspects of their life — including the workplace.

It can sometimes be complex for employers to navigate the different issues around religion or belief in areas such as recruitment and annual leave. It’s more than just good practice to be inclusive and respectful of people’s beliefs.

Managers who don’t create workplaces that avoid discrimination on the basis of religion or belief risk breaking the law.

The new guidance provides employers and employees with essential advice on what discrimination based on religion or belief is, and how to avoid it.
