One month in, Madi and Zoe describe what it’s like joining Accurx

Madi Read and Zoe Kefford here, Accurx’s two very first People Ops Partners. We’ve not been at Accurx very long, in fact just four, gone-in-a-flash weeks. Naturally, in that time, we’ve both been asked ‘how’s the role going?’ and ‘what’re your first impressions?’ by everyone from lovely new colleagues to curious family and friends. So… how is it going?!

To answer that, we put together this short blog post. As People Ops Partners, a big part of our roles will be about providing a fantastic work environment for all Accurx employees so, as you can imagine, we were more than a little interested to see what it’s actually like here, and how things currently work.

Given Omicron was still doing the rounds when we started our roles, we both had the challenge of joining remotely. That can always be a bit weird, and we were both really keen to see the offices, meet people and enjoy Accurx’s daily JustEat Business lunches (daily?! Yup!). Thankfully, it wasn’t weird at all — and that’s thanks to the five first impressions below!

Accurx helps healthcare teams and patients communicate.

Our 5 first impressions of Accurx

1. It’s a smooth onboarding process! 🚆

We really valued how smoothly the onboarding process went over our first couple of weeks. A few simple steps helped us get the most we could from the process, and didn’t leave us guessing what was happening next or what we should be focusing on.

Ahead of our first day, we received our induction plans and any tech we needed, setting us up and letting us know what to expect. Once we logged into our emails, onboarding session invites were there as if by magic, alongside daily week-one catch ups with our manager, and all other team events we might like to attend. During these meetings, we received links to clear and collaborative individual 90-day plans setting out a roadmap for our first three months.

2. People are considerate of time ⏰

Being remote on our first day wasn’t the original plan. But it felt really thoughtful that we could kick things off with a short, casual, and fun call with our new teams before any of our onboarding sessions. Having time to enjoy each other’s company and be excited about the journey was very special and definitely something we appreciated.

With a few onboarding sessions each day, we had enough time to calmly settle in, get to know people, start working with the team, catch up on upcoming Accurx socials, and still have time for home and family commitments.

“Thanks to the thoughtful scheduling, the amazing presenters, and the structure of the 90-day plan, I’ve enjoyed the onboarding process and rarely felt overwhelmed!” — Zoe

3. Everyone’s given the full picture

We liked how quickly we were tuned into other parts of the company and the wider Accurx mission.

Whether you’re an engineer, the office manager or in People Ops — all new starters are enrolled in the same onboarding sessions together. These sessions range from introductions to employee benefits, to a five-part course on our Accurx products. These sessions ensure we all know how our products work and are designed, the problems they solve, and how healthcare professionals use them.

This consistent approach means all new starters have the full picture of how things work across Accurx.

“My favourite induction session was with our CEO Jacob where he ran an informal (and detailed) session on Accurx’s story and the many learnings from along the way. I really appreciated that he took the time to share this with us, and it really helped me connect to the purpose on a deeper level.”— Madi

“I was blown away by the level of care and thought put into the product onboarding sessions. This level of investment, trust, and engagement filled me with so much joy, and knowledge, as a new joiner in a non-technical role. I feel very included and valued.”— Zoe

4. People care about the experience of new joiners — really care! 🦸

Nikki is a People Ops Associate focused on onboarding — our onboarding superhero! Her attention to detail, care and welcoming presence made a huge difference. She made sure everything ran smoothly and was thoughtfully organised from right being a job candidate to closing out the onboarding sessions.

It’s clear that feedback from previous cohorts has been valued and helped to constantly evolve the process with fresh new content.

“Having someone purely focused on onboarding operations in an organisation of this size is unusual. In other businesses, the responsibilities for coordinating these things are often spread across the manager and a number of other roles, often leading to things being missed or inconsistent. Nikki does an amazing job in this role and I believe this is one of the main reasons that this has been such a great onboarding experience.” — Madi

5. It’s a social & fun environment 🥳

We were really glad to discover how social Accurx is.

Joining on the same day as an onboarding group of eight people meant we could build strong relationships and connections early on. Everyone was also assigned an onboarding buddy — someone we might not naturally work with, to further expand our connections from day one.

As we dived further into the culture and learned more about company social events, clubs and committees we knew we could easily find our tribe at Accurx. Whether it’s flower-arranging, sports, joining accuPride, or even starting your own group — there’s time and encouragement to spend time together. We have already set up a craft club together and held our first embroidery session last Friday.

An on-brand creation from Zoe in our first Craft Club!

‘Accurx cares about people — the people it provides for and the people that work for it.’ — Sameera

‘Everyone is warm and friendly. They say they are free to help and answer questions. And they do mean it too!’ — Madi

To sum up…

The new job(s) are going well! Our first impressions have been great. We’ve had the best onboarding experience and time here so far. For us, as People Ops Partners, it’s very exciting to have the bar set high for people experiences at Accurx. We’re looking forward to making these experiences the best they can be for accuFolk and helping the company to connect communication across healthcare.
