Day 9

So, the lovely weather is definitely the nemesis to our poor acebook project. Antonio was standing strong all day, while Irfan and I just could not get our heads around coding. At some point in the morning, even the wifi decided to quit for a while… It’s end of week nine and everyone is exhausted. All of us have been giving our best so far but as we’re approaching tech test week and the final projects, it’s getting more and more difficult to stay focused.

With our energy levels hitting rock bottom today, we still managed to improve our site.

Antonio was working on Ajax functionality for comments, and his hard work did pay off as now our index page only adjusts our comments accordingly instead of refreshing the entire page.

The guys on our team just love gifs, so I’ll keep adding them.

Meanwhile, I was looking into our last ticket from the estimated section: “add a staging environment”. I spent some time researching Sandbox API keys but since we did not have APIs implemented and we did not feel the urge to change this, I put the ticket aside and decided to add functionality to upload profile pictures. In the last weekend challenge I did not have a chance to try the Paperclip gem, so I was curious about how it worked and the guys let me experiment with it on a separate branch.

Irfan was taking turns helping either Antonio, me, or one of the other teams. Oftentimes, he walks around on level three and randomly helps people, like a fairy godfather just less glittery.

Around 1pm we decided that we’d done something and deserved a break and some lunch, so took a walk in the sunshine and treated ourselves with Makers’ absolute favourite, the katsu wrap.

In the afternoon, Antonio was still working hard fixing the comment counter and sorting out Ajax functionality for likes, while I was struggling a lot to be productive and only managed to add profile pictures to the comments.

After yoga, Antonio and I had a quick retro and we realised that even though the day seemed like it had been a big mess we still achieved the things we had planned. Friday is going to be super busy and again quite short. We’ll need to work more on Ajax functionalities, refactor our code and we’d also like to add a diagram to our README, but all in all we are excited to do a presentation on this project and show our website to the rest of our cohort.
