Which programming languages do developers love?

To fit better to our user’s needs, we have updated the languages that we support with Gamma! To celebrate the launch of our additional languages, we interviewed our developers which programming languages they love.

Parag, Smita, Bhakti and Ankit

Ankit, from our team in Pune says:

“As a developer I think all programming languages are good, what matters is the logic of the developer. In fact every language has its own pros and cons, it depends on choice, ease of use, knowledge and the requirement specified for the task to be accomplished by the developer.

Coming back to the question, I love Java because it is easy to use, widely popular and most importantly its huge community support. Along with Java I also love to code using Shell scripting because it’s easy.”

Pankaj, who is also a developer in our Pune team thinks the same:

“JavaScript is another one of the world’s most popular programming languages, and is used to spice up web pages by making them interactive. For example, JavaScript can be used to add effects to web pages, display pop-up messages or to create games with basic functionality. It’s also worth noting that JavaScript is the scripting language of the World Wide Web and is built right into all major web browsers including Internet Explorer, FireFox and Safari.

Almost every website incorporates some element of JavaScript to add to the user experience, adding to the demand for JavaScript developers. In recent past JavaScript has also gained use as the foundation of Node.js, a server technology that among other things enables real-time communication.

Moreover, Google and Facebook have developed almost entire frameworks with JavaScript.”

Looks like JavaScript is the winner here! We asked Shahaji why JavaScript is favored so much:

  • It is light weight
  • A quick solution and fix
  • Nowadays every web application is in JavaScript
  • It is object-oriented
  • Easier for debugging
  • Market Demand is there
  • The fundamentals are simple for beginners but powerful. It provides many platforms for a developer to program.

So, Parag, what is the programming language that you love?

“I have worked on different kind of languages like HTML, Java, SASS(a style sheet language), JavaScript and SQL, but when its come to what I love, it’s JavaScript, because it is the past, present and future of web development. Today 99 % of all top websites uses JavaScript. Since JavaScript has such high adoption and no competition, we can’t really foresee JavaScript going anywhere, anytime soon.

With the release of NodeJS really proves that the web doesn’t need to be as complicated as it once was and when we have framework like AngularJS and ReactJS in place, JavaScript becomes more scalable and a more mature language.

According to Git-hub, JavaScript has over 5 million repositories and there are over 1.5 million questions asked on Stack Overflow compared to all other languages. The difference is stellar! If you want to learn something new and fill your pocket with handsome money this is the best time to get your hands dirty on JavaScript.”

And to conclude, Devyani, tell us why you love JavaScript!

“I love Javascript as it be used as both Frontend (AngularJS) and Backend (NodeJS) language. It enables objects to be defined and developed really quickly. Since the object is a result of a class, no specific class has to be developed for each object. This enables variety on the development process while making it fast and flexible. JavaScript has a host of libraries that help with quick development of websites. Also Javascript is easy to debug and test.”
