Update for 2019: This is still happening! Please email comm2019@cscw.acm.org for more information.

The ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work & Social Computing (CSCW) has been the home for some of the best research and scholarship in the area of collaborative and social technologies for over 20 years. With the 21st conference coming up in November, we want to share some of the great work that is being published with the broader world! The CSCW Medium publication will collect blog posts about recent and upcoming CSCW papers, written by the papers’ authors for a quick read and a public audience. So keep an eye on this space!

This is also an exciting year for CSCW; it will be the largest to date, with almost 300 papers published in Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction and presented in November at our conference on New York City’s Hudson River. The research at CSCW combines social and engineering aspects of information and communication technologies, and is deeply engaged with topics of societal importance. The conference, which is the second-highest rated HCI publication venue, is famous for innovations such as collaborative recommender systems and collaborative document editing. Examples of well-publicized more recent work include research on the effect of banning hate-speech Subreddits (New York Times), social awareness on Venmo (Wall Street Journal), and grief policing on social media (Westword)— all to be presented in this year’s conference. For a taste of more of the work that will be presented this year, check out the published papers from our first round of submissions!

If you are an author with a paper being presented at CSCW 2018 and would like more information about contributing to this publication, please email comm2018@cscw.acm.org.

If you are a journalist interested specifically in any of the stories published here, please reach out to the author directly. For more information about the conference or our broader research, please email comm2018@cscw.acm.org.

We hope you enjoy learning more about the awesome research in the CSCW community! Please follow us on Twitter or Facebook for updates, and consider joining us at the conference in November!

Make sure that you follow the CSCW Publication (rather than this account) for the posts that are to come!
